GA4 can feel overwhelming. You do not need to look at everything — you need a short weekly routine that answers three questions: where are visitors coming from, what are they doing, and are they converting?
1. Traffic acquisition
Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition. Change the dimension to Session source / medium and compare with the previous period. Look for channels that grew or dropped sharply, and check that paid campaigns are tagged correctly with UTM parameters.
2. Key events by channel
Add the Key events and Session key event rate columns. A channel that sends lots of traffic but few conversions needs a landing-page or targeting fix — not more budget.
3. Landing pages
Reports → Engagement → Landing page. Sort by sessions and check engagement rate and key events for your top 10 pages. Pages with high traffic and low conversion are your best CRO opportunities.
4. Funnel exploration
Build a simple funnel in Explore: landing page → product or service page → form start → form submit. The step with the biggest drop-off is where to test first.
Most conversion problems are not traffic problems. Fixing one leaky funnel step is often cheaper than doubling ad spend.
5. Search Console integration
Link Search Console to GA4 and review the Queries report. Look for keywords with high impressions and a low click-through rate — rewriting those title tags and meta descriptions is a quick SEO win.
Turn it into a 20-minute routine
- Monday: acquisition and key events vs last week.
- Note any channel that moved more than 20%.
- Check the top landing pages and funnel drop-off.
- Write down one action for the week.
